In our latest peak behind the scenes at the Walt Disney World resort, we look into work going on at Toy Story Mania, Epcot and FastPass Machines. Also, could the beginning of the end for Epcot's Leave a Legacy have come?
To start off this edition, we head on over to the Disney-MGM Studios. Over by the upcoming Toy Story Mania, Disney has filed notices of commencement for a ride install package and an A/V package. Looks like the innerds of the attraction are finally starting to be installed. Toy Story Mania opens on Mickey Avenue in Summer of 2008. Staying at the Studios for just a moment longer, the roof for ABC Theater, former home to Super Star Television and Doug Live, is getting some refurbishments.
Moving on, Epcot has suddenly been receiving some pretty interesting notices. Prefabricated food locations are going to be designed, built and installed near both the American Adventure and World Showcase Plaza. Now while these may be temporary countries for this fall's Food and Wine Festival, the fact that these notices have been registered now, four months prior to the festival, makes the possibility of something else distinct.
Also of note at Epcot is the partial removal of Leave a Legacy. The icon at the base of Spaceship Earth - the section surrounding the mirror shaft that helped you find your image - is going to be removed. The PAL Mickey emitters located within will be moved to the surrounding walls of Spaceship Earth. Also leaving soon will be the Leave a Legacy kiosks. After that, it will no longer be possible to purchase a new legacy image. It is important to note though that there are no current plans to remove the actual Leave a Legacy monuments.
Moving to some scattered resort news, there will be a Sprint/Nextel installation at the fireworks storage location. In addition, Animal Kingdom's Theater in the Wild, current home to Finding Nemo: The Musical, looks to receive at least what looks to be a fairly significant lighting refurbishment.
Finally, closing off this edition, Walt Disney World is upgrading their FastPass system to look a bit more like their Disneyland counterpart. The new FastPass design will include bar codes. This will help Disney better keep track of FastPass usage and will help the cast members receiving the passes. At Animal Kingdom, upgraded machines include those at Kilimanjaro Safari, Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids, It's Tough to be a Bug, Dinosaur and Primeval Whirl. At Epcot, upgraded machines include those at Norway, The Land, Soarin', HIStA, Test Track and Mission Space.
